About Bherunda
The Palace, Mysore, has been the central guiding force and symbol of the State of Karnataka for over 600 years. Over the course of History, the administration, over-arching policies, and running of the State was undertaken by The Palace, alongside representing Karnataka tradition, culture, and heritage.
In Modern times, with the shift in the political landscape and in the moving of administration, The Palace has focussed its efforts to be a centre for heritage of the Deccan and continues to stress always the importance of culture and tradition of the state. The traditions and practices of The Palace, Mysore are unbroken for over 400 years after inheriting the same from the Vijayanagara Empire, whose legacy is embodied within that of the Wadiyars of Mysore.
The Palace, Mysore, has always strived to highlight these traditions as part of the Vibrancy of our State and it the view of the current Custodian that the rituals, culture, and affairs of The Palace should be enhanced through the tools of modern media. Thus, was born, the Bherunda Magazine.
Initially Bherunda served as the newsletter to highlight some of the Heritage, Events, and Social Work, that the Mysore Palace carried out. Over time, however, the scope of the newsletter increased to where it evolved to be more of a Magazine covering heritage in General, with a focus on the Wadiyars of Mysore, and the traditions of The Palace, Mysore.
In its current persona, Bherunda is viewed as the official media authority tasked by The Royal Household of Mysore, i.e., Wadiyars of Mysore, to publish content of their history, heritage, culture, art, and events, alongside also managing media content of overall events organised by the Royal Household.
